Thinking About Sherrodsville (gp14_week4)

GP14_15Today is January 28th.  It is my Grandma Clow’s Birthday. She passed away in 2012.  She taught all of us about kindness and I miss her dearly.  I have said this before….she introduced me to the magic of birdwatching and is part of the reason that I paint so many birds.  She is also the reason I like peanut butter fudge!  (Her’s was the best.)  She passed away while I was at Burning Man with my original Gift Prolific project.  So today I am celebrating Marge Clow, by adding some new bird seed to the back yard and refilling my feeders.  She would get a kick out of that…and my project.  In fact, she was one of the first gift-ees (she was #006!)….see here.  This week’s ‘highlighted’ gift has a lot to do with grandmas….

I walked into work on Saturday morning and noticed a note on the cork board in the break room.  It said that my friend Manny’s Grandma had passed away and that he was headed back to Mexico City to take care of the funeral arrangements.  Manny was very close with his grandma.  And my heart just went out to him.  I also learned this week that my friend Lance’s father had passed away.  Kind of a rough week all around.  Anyway the note said that as an employee I could donate my AR (active reserve) Pay to Manny to help him cover  the cost of taking time off.  Without a second thought I picked up the AR Paperwork and donated all of my vacation time to Manny.  It sounds like a lot, but I didn’t have a ton of time saved up…but it is something that I can do.  And I hope it helps a little.  Losing your Grandma is tough….losing anyone is tough.  Especially when you are close.

I think it’s great to get to write about this stuff on my Grandma’s birthday.  Now I think I am gonna go make some fudge or some cookies and give em to my neighbors.  She would have liked that.  Happy Birthday Grandma…and to my cousin Sherri Hoffee! (both on Jan. 28) My birthday is tomorrow (Jan. 29)!!!  Pretty much every year of my life I would call my Grandma on her birthday and talk…we would wish each  other “Happy Birthday” and laugh about all sorts of things.  I miss that a lot.  ok…well I am off.  Take care.  Talk to you soon.
