Giving happens everywhere. I promise. I saw it happen today. My friend Maddie has been dealing with some of life’s real shit. Without exposing her business all over the interwebs, I can say that she has been up against some really big challenges lately. Every time she turns the corner or makes a step forward she gets pushed back a step ,sometimes two. We have all been there. We have all known someone facing real struggles. On top of her recent life stuff….she was recently in a pretty terrible bicycle accident. Ambulance….hospital…really bad day. Today I was talking with my friend Kathryn at work. She was giving me some of the details about the crash. Scary. I wondered what I could do for Maddie. I blanked. I just couldn’t figure out what to offer. After an hour or so it finally hit me. Maybe Maddie needs a day to process things. To slow down. Breathe. Relax. So I came up with ‘Spa Day’. I asked Kathryn ‘Do you think a spa day would be cool for Maddie?’ Kathryn told me that they always talk about doing that but never set a date and time. I also proposed that we get a few people to chip in. We were very excited about the idea. So off I went to ask Maddie’s friends if they would contribute to our ‘Spa Day’ gift. The response was truly awesome. I wasn’t amazed that people said yes….more amazed at how fast they said yes! People LOVE Maddie and want to do something nice for her! Now we have a team of supporters! Thanks to Kathryn, Julie, Melissa, Gavin, Amy, Audrey, Jill, Chavez, Sarah and myself Maddie is getting a gift card to the Kabuki Spa in Japan Town! We are all very excited to give this gift together. I am very inspired to see that people band together to support their friend. It really is a special thing watching people give. And a perfect way to start my February Marathon.
This painting was painted with Maddie in mind. Sitting in the Spa and relaxing. Letting her troubles be silent for a little bit. There is an Asian influence and feeling in this painting. It is painted on a wood round and is about 10×12 inches. And it is inspired by the daily meditation of giving and being whole. Giving does happen everywhere…and it is amazing to watch. Take care.
Sold to the wonderful Lisa Beutler. Thank you Lisa.
