Yesterday (29th) was my birthday (37th). I had one amazing day, filled with adventure and great gifts. It started out with dropping Darwin off with our friend Chesna. She offered to watch him while we went on a hike. The coolest part about that was that she was super flexible about how long we could leave him. It made me feel relaxed, which is something I need more of. Then, Theresa and I headed off to El Corte Madera Open Space Preserve. We have been there once before…But yesterday we hiked to an old plane crash site on the side of the mountain. It was phenomenal. Although it wasn’t the happiest of destinations….it was a very joyous journey. We had a great hike. Then we headed back to Chesna’s and picked up the boy. We made it home in time to watch some Battlestar Galactica….and took a quick nap. Then it was dnner time. We had made a reservation at Darbhar (Indian Food) in the city…and invited about 20 people. The food was great….the company was even better!
I had asked my friends for gifts this year. But I wanted a different kind of gift. I wanted to have a shared time experience with each of my friends. So in my Facebook invite I explained to them to come up with something we could do together. Hiking, camping, playing paintball, bowling, going out for dinner, for coffee, walking in Golden Gate park…etc. I explained that their gift could cost as much or as little as they wished. What mattered most to me was getting a chance to hang out with them and be together. And I also encouraged them to be creative with their ‘coupon’ for their adventure.
Well, my friends are awesome. EVERYONE participated in this! People that couldn’t even make it to dinner even participated. I now have coupons or cards detailing so many great adventures to come, this year. Some of these experiences include 2 all girl hiking trips, biking all day on Angel Island, Personal Training sessions, hiking with the whole family and a full on picnic in the San Bruno Mountains, dinner at a friend’s house, kayaking in Half Moon Bay, recording some music together….etc. I am so excited about each one. I believe that these adventures will create lasting memories and a lot of joy. I am looking forward to each one. As we drove home last night I really felt loved. I felt like everyone came through for me, on my birthday. I felt each person’s participation….I could see that each of my friends really thought about what I would like to do…and gifted me that opportunity. This was hands down the best birthday I have had. I am a very lucky person. Thank you for letting me tell you all about this. My friends and family are all amazing. Take care.
PS – today’s picture is of a skunk skull that was also a birthday present from Amy. Now I need to go buy a new shelf to make room for more skulls in my studio. Awesome.
