Unlocking yourself from your own shackles is a really powerful thing. The tough thing about these shackles….is that they keep coming back. Sometimes we replace them with newer, shinier, versions….but they are there. All of us carry these burdens around. For me, giving has helped me break these shackles, daily. Today, I am buying groceries and the cashier asks if I want to donate to kids with Muscular Dystrophy. Instead of giving the dollar she asked for I donate 5. My standard gift. This gift seems like a filler gift. I have done it so many times. But that doesn’t really take away from the importance of the action.
This is another quick drawing of a sculpture at Burning Man in 2009. It was called ‘Key Note’ by Michael Christian. It consisted of a 12 foot tall man pieced together from locks. All key locks. His face had the shape of a giant key hole cut into it. And he was dragging a giant key…..with a rope made of keys. I loved it. In fact I think it is a brilliant piece and is totally museum worthy. What a great concept. And to get what I get out of it….stunning. So here is my quick sketch of ‘Key Note’. Take care.
