Day 269 – Family Portraits

I don’t know if you can tell but I paint a lot.  LOL.  Sometimes I paint everyday.  Sometimes I paint all day long.  I paint paintings for the Gift Prolific.  I paint paintings to sell at various art shows.  I paint a lot of pet portraits.  I paint other commissions.  And once in a while I make paintings for gifts.  I like painting.  I don’t know if you knew that or not.  Tonight I am painting some skulls.  Shocking, I know.  But these skulls are for me.  I will probably end up selling them at a show I am in next week….But for right now they are for my studio.  I rarely get to make art just for me.  For the fun of it.  Art with the only intention of having fun.  That is not to say that this whole thing isn’t a blast….but I am not keeping these Gift Prolific paintings.  The skull paintings on the other hand, would be great to have in my studio.  So they are a gift to me.  I am glad I realized that tonight when I started them.

This one was a whole lot of fun to make.  I limited myself to 5 minutes on this painting.  I wanted it to come out very painterly and loose.  I am very happy with this one too!  It is super loose….but a little moody.  Doing this so fast made me want to paint a HUGE canvas so fast.  It is very liberating to just trust the brush to do the work for you.  To just go with the accidents and flow of it all.  To just let it be.  Painting this painting was like another gift to myself.  You’d think it was my birthday!  Well I am off….have a great night.  Take care.
