Today I am at the Stonestown Mall with my 2 year old son, Darwin. We stopped here after dropping off my friend Craig’s guitar at his house. It is getting near dinner time plus Theresa needed a little time to get some job hunting done. So walk around the mall a bit. Darwin loves riding the escalators. We eat…he has french fries and I get a chicken philly from the Cheese Steak place. We have fun making faces and sharing fries. I love being with him. After our dinner we walk by the Mrs. Fields Cookie spot. Darwin loves mini m&m cookies more than he like the escalators! So we get a few of those to share. And 2 gift cards to give away. Then we walk some more. As we pass back by the food court I see two women sitting together. Maybe a Mother and Daughter. I have a great idea…I give one of the gift cards I baought to Darwin and tell him to give it to them. He walks over to them with his arm straight out and taps the woman on the arm. “good job buddy” I say….following him. I explain to the women what the heck is going on. And give them a business card for the project. They thank us even if they do seem a little skeptical. Oh well.
I am so proud of my boy! He is so much fun to be around. I am glad that he kind of understood what to do with our gift. Even if he doesn’t fully grasp the idea he had a big smile on his face. Like he understood that he was sharing his cookies….maybe I am projecting a bit. At any rate it was fun. This painting is kind of about that connection that I got to share with him. Giving. I hope to raise him to be a giver. Someone that wants to do nice things for people because that is what should be done. He is so awesome. And I am proud to be his dad. Take care.
