Day 164 – Entertaining

Tonight we are having guests over for dinner.  My friend Maria and her husband….plus their threes kids!  It is very exciting.  I don’t get to cook for a lot of people very often.  I think of my friend Rachel….She cooks for lots of people nearly everyday!  How does she do it?  Anyway…I am very excited.  I am making stuffed shells with broccoli, mushrooms, and onions in the filling.  Some dinner rolls and a salad fill out the rest of dinner.  For dessert I made a batch of yellow cake cupcakes with chocolate fudge frosting.  When the family gets here we show them around the house….and they all dig in and eat.  They like the food.  We talk a lot and watch the kids play together.  I play a few songs on my guitar and ukulele.  It is a great evening.  I am so happy to cook for them and give them a night off.  No dishes…no cooking….just gringo food, and fun!  At the end of th night I send them home with some more stuffed shells…and a few cupcakes.  They tell me that they had a great time.  I had a great time too.  Hopefully they will come over again.

This was a simple enough painting.  It just sort of came out.  I didn’t actually think too much of today’s gift when I painted it.  So I guess there isn’t much if a connection.  The background was painted by my mom and brother Chad….If I say anything about the work I have done on it….it would be that I was reacting to their background.  Just going with it….seeing what happens.  Take care.

Wow, a guy who can cook-what a catch! I know how, but have always been too nervous about having company come over. I’ve been challenging myself lately and also have taken on Easter as “my holiday” with the family; mostly it’s been going fairly well but it’s a heck of a lot of work!
I have such respect for my mother-in-law; since I’ve known that family, she seemingly has no trouble cooking for 4 to 40 people and makes it look easy! I have to say the food’s not always that good (her cooking method is to put something in the oven at a low temp) and she knows it’s ready “When all the guests have arrived”. But she lights up a bunch of candles and serves with such grace, that’s it always a good time……
Glad you and your friends had such a lovely evening; it’s always quite the treat when someone cooks for you…..
