Day 126 – Have A Seat

I am driving my van with my friend Amy in the passenger seat.  We are headed for ‘Cost Plus’ to pick up a cool chair for her apartment.  ‘Owe owe owe!!!’  I get this really awful leg cramp in my upper thigh!  It is so bad I have to stop the van and get out to try and walk it off.  How weird.  I have had some mean leg cramps in my day but this one is at the top of the list.  After it subsides a little we get back in the van and head off.  We pick up the chair….its uber cute.  I limp around the store a bit and check some stuff out.  I buy some earrings for Theresa for tomorrow’s gift.  Today’s gift was officially driving Amy to this store.  So we load the van and are about to head back to her place but we both feel that it was too quick of a visit…so we decide to do lunch.  After a couple blocks of limping on my cramped leg….yeah it cramped up again, we end up at an awesome Thai place.  We get to catch up and talk about all sorts of awesome stuff in our lives.  This is another day that I feel incredibly lucky to be here and have such amazing friends.

This painting was about halfway finished when I sat down in the living room with some sharpies to add to it.  As I was outlining the figure and writing the word ‘breathe’ on it Darwin grabbed another sharpie and took one good stab at it.  Then another.  Instead of correcting him or stopping him….I just went with it and so did he.  So I present to you my collaboration with my 2 year old.  I think he did one heck of a job!  I think that it really shows how crazy the word can be, but you need to sit down…breathe.  And try and understand that you are loved.  You are lucky to be so loved.  And hopefully you can return that love before you die.  I hope that I can teach that lesson to Darwin (my 2 year old) in time.  Take care.

Thank you so much. It was really fun to make some art with my little one. about 6 months ago he did the same thing with a red sharpie to a painting I was working on as a paid commission for someone! I had about 20 hours into it and he red sharpied the heck out of it. I had to sand it down and start all over. It was terrifying! The one good moment was that when my wife found him in the studio doing it he was saying ‘painting….painting…” He was just trying to help. I couldn’t stay mad. Thanks. And welcome to the project. Take care.

Bummer about the leg cramps, but the rest of it made a lovely post. Your first “collaboration” with your budding young artist son-I love that you didn’t freak out and just let him contribute. I think it captures your sentiment quite well…..
