Day 105 – Holiday Cards

There is no super special story for today’s gift.  Just warm feelings.  Christmas is almost here.  I am trying very hard to define my own Christmas Tradition.  I want to stay away from the shopping frenzy.  I want to appreciate my family and friends.  I want to have some great experiences that remind what life is all about and reflect on that around Christmas.  I want to show Theresa and Darwin how much I care about them, by not buying them a bunch of useless junk.  We will get to that soon enough I guess.  Anyway…Today I am sending out a few Christmas cards.  I picture each of my friends opening them and seeing the cute pic of Theresa and I tickling Darwin….and smiling.  I wish I could send everyone a card….but I never get that organized before Christmas.  There is always my promise to do that next year….sigh.  Maybe that is a Holiday Tradition?  Oh well.

Today’s painting is of one of Darwin’s favorite new things to touch….A shiny tree bulb.  Pretty simple.  Maybe someone will take this one at Burning Man and put it with their Christmas stuff.  Or maybe it will make it to Christmas Camp and hang with all the Santas.  The possibilities are endless.  Take care.

This year we gave each of our kids (we have six, four have spouses so 10 in all!) a book about something they have always talked about doing, and then a couple of the necessary tools to get started. Local bookstore, then mom & pop shops for the stuff. It was a huge hit and has them excited about new hobbies. Our favorite gift was from our daughter Sarah. She bought all the supplies necessary for everyone here at Christmas to make this really cool crayon art piece. So now everyone has a pretty piece of art that we all created together. Wonderful memories for the grandchildren!

What a great idea for gifts! I want to use that next year. Really cool. And the crayon art piece sounds really neat to….you get the experience of making it to share and the reminder of that fun time to take home. Very cool.

One of my goals for this trip we are on was to create the most non-traditional (although perhaps we might be creating our new tradition!) experiential Christmas I’ve ever had in my life and oh my, I think we have exceeded all of our expectations!
Yesterday, we were in Pfeiffer State Park strolling through the redwoods (something I found out our cousin has wanted to do since she was 5 years old), had lunch at Nepenthe, and were at Pfeiffer Beach at sunset-a more perfect day I cannot imagine…..
Today’s our day to meet you-the last of my wishes for our adventure here……get ready!

I love Big Sur! It is one of my all time favorite California spots. How about that waterfall falling right on the beach? Dang. What a great experience. I can’t wait to see you today. PS – our hous eis little messy…we kind of live like students…I know you won’t mind but I just wanted to shoot you a warning. ha ha. Take care.
