Day 103 – 49 Mile Scenic Drive

Sutro Baths, Land’s End, Ocean Beach, The Golden Gate Bridge, The Palace Of Fine Arts, The Mission District, Twin Peaks, Murals in Clarion Alley, Paxton Gate, The Pirate Supply Store…..These are all the stops we are making today.  We?….I am driving my friend Samita and her Grandma around San Francisco today.  Playing tour guide.  Samita is in town, from Savannah, to spend Christmas with her Grandma.  We met about 20 years ago.  Her dad and my dad were friends.  Drinkin’ buddies.  We only met a few times but have reconnected through the magic of Facebook.  A few years ago I was checking out her profile and was incredibly inspired by her.  She lives life.  Does that make sense.  It seems like she isn’t just waiting on life to happen…she does things how she wants to.  And I really like that.  She has chickens….a small garden…co-owns a vintage lingerie store….drives a bad ass country truck.  She is awesome.  So today I get to play tour guide…and get to meet Samita in person…as grown ups.

This painting is a tribute to San Francisco.  The city I love so much.  All around the city there is a 49 Mile Scenic Drive route and this is what the sign looks like.  I didn’t get this painting finished.  It is missing the big red ‘Scenic Drive’ letters.  but once again I am short on time.  I like it without them too.  Kind of leaves open the possibilities.  People in San Francisco will be very familiar with this sign.  I think I am going to make a bigger ‘for sale’ painting of these signs.  It would be neat to see a whole series of them….even if they are just photographed.  Hmm….if I ever get free time again.  Lol.  Take care.

One Response to Day 103 – 49 Mile Scenic Drive

Many people in my family (except for me) really dislike SF, saying it’s too dirty and full of homeless people and other assorted characters. I wish they knew the SF you describe here; I wish both of us had the time for you to show me the places you love, but alas, it’s not to be right now…..
I was unaware about the SF scenic drive signs in the city, but will be on the lookout for them as we make our way there……
