“You must be Josh!” says a man sitting on his porch as I exit our minivan. “yep” I reply. His name is Dan and we are heading into his house. His wife Rachel and I have become friends recently and she is cooking my family dinner tonight. We are really excited about this because she is a chef. And we haven’t made new friends in a long time. We are welcomed in and get the quick tour and hellos. We have brought flowers to show our appreciation for the dinner. I think this fits in with my appreciation theme for the month. The food smells great! And after we sit and talk with Dan, Rachel and Marley their daughter we dig in. It is even better than it smells. It is so nice to have someone make dinner for you. Theresa and I really feel their gift. It is just nice to get a little break. They understand that Darwin gets into everything and they are not worried about it…No freak outs. Just good food, good conversations, and great night had by all. I think that the flowers aren’t really a good enough thank you….I will have to make Rachel a painting. If I ever get some free time I will get it done!
This painting is super simple. I really like bird silhouettes on telephone wires. Lots of people paint these. I think it is very compelling. They capture my imagination. I wonder what they are seeing….what they are thinking. I wonder where they have been and where they are going. I wonder if some of them are family, friends, or just acquaintances. What is it like to be a bird? Are they missing out on all the great things in the world? Or are we? Enough of this talk…I am tired. Can you tell? Take care.
