Today is the day before Halloween. It is a very important day in my house. As you may have read on other posts, we go big for Halloween. Theresa and I believe that participating and making Halloween memorable and enjoyable for your community is an enormous gift. It is also an enormous undertaking. This year we are carving 40 or so pumpkins, setting up our homemade graveyard, building a few monsters, and setting out our inflatable animatable spider named Boris….and today I am building a 12 foot tall Scarecrow. Theresa and I have been working n his head all week. We made it our of paper mache’. I am in the yard, sweating it out on this unusually warm October day. I get the basic frame built…stand it…and attach the head. He is awesome. It is like a telephone pole gone mad! We are super proud of our creation. Then I start carving pumpkins. My friend Craig comes over to help…Theresa works too. This is what I have always wanted to do for Halloween….Carve a ton of pumpkins! And we are doing it. And giving it to our community…our neighborhood. It feels exactly like Burning Man. Giving, with no need for anything in return….hoping that people just enjoy it. It’s really cool to know that people love our yard decorations and will maybe be more inspired next year to make their own….or just come back and enjoy ours.
This is a loose representation of the Pumpkin Scarecrow. I am sore and tired for the build and the many many many pumpkins I have carved today. Who knew Halloween was so much work? Yeah…..that’s a joke. Well I am off to be. Take care.
